Venice
April 2026Italy · City Break
Venice's luxury tier is defined by its canal-access properties: Hotel Cipriani (Belmond), Aman Venice, Gritti Palace (The Luxury Collection). The city is genuinely too crowded in July–August — the community's hard advice is April/May or October. Private water taxi is worth the price over public vaporetto for getting to/from the airport with luggage. Three nights maximum for most itineraries; Murano, Burano, and Torcello are half-day island trips worth building in.
What the community says
Definitely was *not* a thing for us a couple of weeks ago in Venice (Gritti / St Regis).
The value equation right now
With the lens of I’ve been to Venice many times and would t go back unless it’s a hotel worth the special trip to stay at.
Properties the community recommends
Aman
Community pickThe Aman venice did this on my last visit and it pissed me off.
Honest negative: Pricing has increased 2–3x since 2019; community debates whether the premium is still justified.
Four Seasons
For hotels: 1) Four Seasons Florence - gorgeous gardens, great pool, feels removed but is a 10 minute walk from the Duomo so we never got in a car; 2) Cipriani in Venice - again, it's so nice to have the great pool and to get away from crowds - heaven on earth!.
Honest negative: Service consistency varies meaningfully between locations; community frequently flags post-COVID decline at specific properties.
Rosewood
Slide to Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in a chauffeured van with car seat installed, let my sitter handle bedtime while you raid The Mall, then Rome home base with pantry pre-stocked, stroller-friendly Vatican after-hours, and Aman Venice for the finale with lagoon boat rides built in.
Honest negative: Properties feel inconsistent in style; some lean more business-hotel than resort.
Como
From Como - Tuscany - Rome - Verona - Venice in 3 weeks might work on paper, but with a small child the problem isn't so much the distances as the number of changes.
Honest negative: Limited footprint outside Asia; F&B can feel underinvested vs. comparable properties.
Belmond
I haven’t been to Venice, have you tried the Aman or Belmond?.
Honest negative: Train experiences strong; hotels more variable — some feel tired.
What each price tier gets you
Best time to go
If you want alternatives: Aman Venice is magical in summer and a completely different energy.
