South Africa
April 2026South Africa · Multi-Destination
South Africa is the community's favourite safari-plus-city combination. Cape Town (The Silo Hotel, Ellerman House) + Singita Sabi Sand or &Beyond Phinda is the standard itinerary. The Winelands (Delaire Graff, La Residence) add a third component. At current ZAR exchange rates the destination is exceptional value — world-class properties and food at a significant discount to comparable experiences elsewhere.
What the community says
Try finding hotels rich in history -- two that come in mind immediatly is the Ritz Paris and La Residence in South Africa or Belmond Mt Nelson.
The value equation right now
Good thing with the day trip is that you won't leave Cape Town unless the weather in Antarctica is good, so at worst you might spend a few extra days more in Cape than bad weather ruining your very expensive multi day trip.
Properties the community recommends
Aman
Community pickThe Connaught or Claridges in London, Ellerman House or Leeu Estate in South Africa, The Brando in French Polynesia, Singita properties, Aman in Japan.
Honest negative: Pricing has increased 2–3x since 2019; community debates whether the premium is still justified.
Four Seasons
RiffelAlp - Zermatt Londolozi - Kruger Rayavadee - Krabi, Thailand La Bergerie - Morzine summer season (3\* but just the best vibe and communal area) Burj Al Arab - Dubai (Just because it is so ridiculously over the top) Four Seasons and all the other big names don't really float my boat.
Honest negative: Service consistency varies meaningfully between locations; community frequently flags post-COVID decline at specific properties.
Singita
Also Singita Lebombo and Tswalu Loapi tented camp, both in South Africa.
Honest negative: Like I said, there are more hotels who have concession space in South Africa and some cheaper than Singita.
Como
Feb- London March - Malta and Sicily April - Singapore and Indonesia May - Rome June - Como July- Dolomites and Geneva August - tour du mont blanc (Italy, Switzerland, france) September- Scotland October - Cologne November- South Africa December - Seychelles.
Honest negative: Limited footprint outside Asia; F&B can feel underinvested vs. comparable properties.
What each price tier gets you
What to avoid / what's changed
You could skip Cape Town and come straight here post-international flight to recalibrate (that’s what I did before my conference), or it makes a beautiful wind-down after a safari.
How to book
Community discussion for this destination skews toward points redemptions. Hyatt, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Amex Membership Rewards are the most-cited programmes. Direct booking typically unlocks early check-in, room upgrades, and F&B credits — rate-parity rules mean direct price is rarely worse than OTA.
