Tuscany at the luxury level is primarily agriturismo and private villa rather than hotel. The community recommends private villa rental for groups of 4+: Castello Banfi, Villa Antinori, or independent properties via Airbnb Luxe. For hotels: Castiglion del Bosco and Borgo San Felice (Chianti) are the top picks. The Uffizi and the Leaning Tower are non-negotiable but manage them early morning or pre-booked.

What the community says

Edit: Now adding hours later for those that joined late - I do not own a castle in tuscany.

The value equation right now

We just stayed at the FS Florence and had a weeks’ worth of laundry in the middle of our travels.

Properties the community recommends

Four Seasons

Have stayed at many of these albeit not the ones in the far East, and while incredible, the Four Seasons Florence is not even the best hotel in that city anymore - its the Auberge by far lol.

Honest negative: Service consistency varies meaningfully between locations; community frequently flags post-COVID decline at specific properties.

Rosewood

Agree Rosewood is a very very special place in Tuscany.

Honest negative: Properties feel inconsistent in style; some lean more business-hotel than resort.

Como

If you’re open to shifting the geography slightly, Tuscany in particular offers incredible value compared to top Lake Como hotels.

Honest negative: Limited footprint outside Asia; F&B can feel underinvested vs. comparable properties.

Belmond

Italy- Belmond Splendido in Portofino, Belmond Castello di Casole in Tuscany London - Bulgari Paris - The Ritz South of France - Grand Hotel Du Cap Ferrat Thailand - FS Koh Samui, FS Chiang Mai.

Honest negative: Train experiences strong; hotels more variable — some feel tired.

What each price tier gets you

$1,000–$2,000/night Limited corpus signal at this tier.
$2,000–$5,000/night Limited corpus signal at this tier.
$5,000+/night Limited corpus signal at this tier.

What to avoid / what's changed

I would not go to Florence in favor of all of Greece to avoid crowds in the summer. 🤣🤣🤣.

Best time to go

April is still considered shoulder season for Tuscany, albeit beginning of April is Easter and end of April in many countries is school holiday, so your best best is mid-April then.

How to book

Community discussion for this destination skews toward points redemptions. Hyatt, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Amex Membership Rewards are the most-cited programmes. Direct booking typically unlocks early check-in, room upgrades, and F&B credits — rate-parity rules mean direct price is rarely worse than OTA.
